Creighton Brain Day (CBD)

Hosting Nebraska’s first (and currently only), Regional USA National Brain Bee Competition qualifying exam.

CBD 2026 will be Friday, February 6th 2026 on Creighton’s Omaha Campus. Details below.

What is Creighton Brain Day (CBD)?

CBD is an annual event hosted by the greater Creighton Neuroscience community and organized by NuRhoPsi Neuroscience Honors Society.

High school students from around the state are welcomed to study for the Brain Bee and then spend a day at Creighton for the competition, neuroscience labs, and to experience Creighton’s campus.

What is the Brain Bee?

The Brain Bee is a National and International competition seeking to inspire high school students to invest in understanding the brain. Modeled after the “Spelling Bee”, Brain Bee students study from a common, freely available text to learn facts about the brain from development to function to age-related disease.

Brain Bee competitors must compete at a Regional competition to be eligible for the National competition. Each regional site nominates one student to attend the National event. A student may only attend the National competition and may attend only one time.

How do I participate?

To register a team for Creighton Brain Day contact Dr. King (gwenking@creighton.edu).

To begin preparing for the Bee, a freely downloadable book as well as audio book are available through the Society for Neuroscience . As well BrainFacts provides a wealth of other study resources. Creighton Neuroscience majors have also developed tools to support our teams, contact Dr. King for our study guide and videos.

When is CBD 2026?

Creighton Brain Day is Friday, February 6th, 2026, from ~9-4:30pm on the Omaha campus of Creighton University.

Registration is now open and teams need to be registered by November, 30th, 2025.

There is no cost for competitors or sponsors.

Important notes:

There is no cost to attend Creighton Brain Day or compete in the Creighton Brain Bee competition.

CBD is 100% volunteer lead and 100% dependent on donations for all components. Thus, we do not have funding to support travel to the National competition (but would love to talk to potential sponsors!).

We seek to register teams of students with a teacher advocate to support their study and growth. This model is proven across the country to be best for learning. If you are interested in forming a team or discussing individual participation, contact Dr. King.
