Ayden Chavez: Spirit of Creighton

Every Spring, Creighton faculty are solicited to nominate a graduating senior for the Spirit of Creighton award. Touted as the highest honor given to a graduate, only two are awarded across any of the undergraduate colleges. Honorees are not notified of their nomination or selection. Nominees are expected to be people who have achieved across all of the academic pillars to a level of excellence consistent with the highest of the Jesuit values forming the foundation of Creighton’s ideals. Dr. King and Robby Francis collaborated to build a case that Ayden Chavez was very worthy of this recognition and literally both of them screamed when his name was announced at graduation. That’s when they do it…. everyone sits down all happy and formally marched into the arena and then your name is called to come forward to the stage in front of everyone…. and while everyone is cheering, you have to actually go forward cause the shock of hearing your name in a big arena is pretty massive. So we feel bad to have caused Ayden had an extra adrenaline dump at graduation … but man is it amazing when people you know, love, and who actually deserve it for being amazing, WIN. Congratulations Ayden!
